Privacy policy

Updated 25 October 2026

This page explains what data mentalka.app collects, why it is needed and how to delete it. We tried to keep it in plain words.

In short

  • You can take the tests without signing up and without giving your name or e-mail.
  • Answers are stored with a random browser code, not with your name.
  • We only get your e-mail if you choose to leave it.
  • We don't sell data or pass it to ad networks. The site has no ad pixels and no advertising cookies.
  • You can ask us to delete your data at any time.

Who is responsible for the data

mentalka.app is run by Serhii Protopopov, a practising psychologist. He is responsible for your data as a private individual. For any question about your data, write to:

@proterapevt

What we collect

  • A random browser code. The site creates it on your first visit and keeps it in your browser. It contains no name or contacts, but it shows that answers came from the same device.
  • The date of your visit. To count how many people visit the site and how many come back.
  • Test answers and results. Your answers, scores and level.
  • The short survey next to a test, if you filled it in. Some tests ask about sex, age, region or country, and whether you are displaced or serve in the military. Every one of these questions can be skipped.
  • E-mail for a consultation. If you asked to be contacted, we store your e-mail, the test name and a link to your result.
  • E-mail for research. If you agreed to be invited to a study, we store your e-mail, the date you agreed and the test name.
  • Feedback. Exercise ratings and any text you send yourself.
  • IP address. The server sees it with every request. We use it only to protect forms from spam and don't write it to the database.

Why

  • To show you your result and tips, and to save your progress if you close the page in the middle of a test.
  • To keep statistics: how many people take the tests and where they find it hard. This is how we improve the tests.
  • To build the anxiety map. It shows only average scores per region or country, and only once there are enough answers. Individual people can't be seen there.
  • To contact you about a consultation or a study if you asked for it.

Answers to psychological tests are about your health, so we process them only with your consent. You give it when you take a test or leave your e-mail yourself, and you can withdraw it at any time.

GAD-7 anxiety test and the anxiety map

After the GAD-7 anxiety test you can tell us your oblast or country. We use these answers for the anxiety map and the yearly Mentalka survey.

  • What goes on the map. Your GAD-7 score and the oblast or country, if you chose one. We also store your sex, age and group (for example, internally displaced or military), but we do not show them on the map.
  • How we count. We use one answer per person per calendar year, the latest one. An average score for an oblast or country appears only once there are at least 30 answers, so no one can be identified.
  • What others see. The map shows only average scores, the share of people with marked anxiety and the number of answers. No one except Serhii Protopopov sees individual answers.
  • Publications. We may publish summary figures from the survey (average scores and percentages by oblast and country) in articles and on social media, and share them with journalists. We never publish or share individual answers.
  • How to stay off the map. Skip the oblast question and your answer will not be counted on the map. If you have already chosen an oblast, write to us and we will delete it.

The survey is not a scientific study: people take it because they want to, so the figures do not describe the whole population.

Who else has access

Only Serhii Protopopov sees your data. To keep the site running, we use a few companies. They store or pass on data on our behalf and don't use it for their own purposes:

  • Supabase: the database that holds answers, results and e-mails.
  • Vercel: site hosting and visit statistics without cookies.
  • Telegram: notifications about events on the site go to the psychologist's private chat. They include the test name and a link to the result, and a consultation request also includes the e-mail.

The Supabase database is in the EU, in Frankfurt (Germany). Vercel servers may be in the EU or in the USA, and Telegram has servers in several countries.

We don't sell data, don't pass it to advertisers and don't use it for advertising. Data may be handed to public authorities only when the law requires it.

Result links

When you share a result, the site creates a link with a long random code. Anyone who has the link will see the result, but not your name or contacts. Only send it to people you trust.

Cookies and browser storage

The site has no advertising or tracking cookies. In your browser we keep only what the site needs to work: the random code, test progress, your language and theme. You can erase all of it by clearing the site data for mentalka.app in your browser settings.

How long we keep data

  • Test answers and results are kept while they are needed for statistics, or until you ask us to delete them.
  • An e-mail for a consultation is kept until you ask us to delete it.
  • An e-mail for research is kept until you withdraw your consent.

Your rights

You can:

  • find out what data we have about you and get a copy;
  • correct or delete it;
  • withdraw your consent;
  • complain to a data protection authority. In Ukraine this is the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, in Poland UODO, in Croatia AZOP.

To use any of these rights, write to sprotopopov@gmail.com. We don't know who you are, so include the e-mail you left on the site or a link to your result. We will reply within 30 days.

Children

The tests are meant for adults. If you are under 16, ask a parent for permission before leaving your e-mail.

Changes

If we change this policy, the date at the top of the page will change too.
